Kite surfing: Ynyslas Estuary Wind Direction: NE Wind Stength: 13-15 knots Surf / Sea State: Flat Air Temperature: 18ºC Sea Temperature: 17ºC Weather: Cloudy Max Speed: Distance Covered:
An excellent session... Nice flat water and a steady NE wind meant I was
perfectly powered up. Once again I was able to head upwind and gain ground
upwind really well, which is a step in the right direction as far as my
kite-surfing skills go.
After a couple of runs headin upwind, I reaised that Steve, Stevebus, Ian
and Martin were all on the beach watching me, so I decided to go for my
first ever kite-surfing jump. I've jumped with a foil kite on the beach
before, so I just did the same sort of thing with my LEI kite, and sure
enoough it worked and I boosted some air!!! It felt pretty good. I took off
on one tack, turned the kite in mid-air floated suspended in air for a
while and then landed cleanly on the other tack and sailed (is that the
right term?) off in the opposite direction. I landed the board a little
flat, but apart from that it was OK. I thought the jump was about 5 foot
high, but I was talking to Martin later and he seemed to think it was twice
that height... I'm not going to argue with him!!!
I tried another jump on my next run, and again made it OK, but dropped in
backwards on the landing this time and had to waterstart away.
Not long after this the wind started to get a bit too gusty so I packed up
and went for a 'Limit Special' breakfast.
